Packing Up Christmas Decor!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Did you chose your word of the year yet? I hope you have, and I hope you’re off to a good start so far!

One of my favorite things to do in the first week of the year is get my Christmas decor all cleaned up and packed away! My OCD heart is very happy about organizing everything to make it easier to find next year, and make sure it stays safe and protected! So, here’s my 5 tips for packing up Christmas, to make things easier, more organized, and labeled well so that you know what’s what come next Christmas!

1) HOLIDAY CARD KEEPSAKE

I got this idea from my neighbor girlfriends this year and knew I had to implement it! I love keepsakes, and always hated throwing out Christmas cards! I punch a hole in every card we received this season, ours at the front, and put them on a metal ring! I love how neat it looks and that they can be kept to look at for years to come! I plan on putting them in a little basket at Christmas time next year, and every year after!

2) KEEP THEM PROTECTED

Some of these cards are printed on your typical photo paper, therefore fragile! I decided to use one of our stockings as “packing” because it’s the perfect size! I kept the horizontal cards together, and also the vertical, so it made it easy to flip one the opposite direction and tuck right into the stocking for safe storage.

3) KEEP THEM SAFE

Sometimes there are pieces of decor that get ruined, or ruin other things, when kept in the same storage space. You don’t want to have to separate everything in order to keep them safe, or from shedding a bunch of glitter and things! So, use bags, stockings if it’s small enough, or plastic wrap to keep things preserved and ready for the next Christmas season!

4) LABELS!

I’m a sucker for the OCD details! I label everything I can! I like to keep organized not only for me, but also my husband and kids who really could care less and would just throw things wherever! Haha So I label what season/holiday it’s for, when I’m allowed to unpack it (haha), and then what specifics are in it. This way, I know whether to bring the box in the living room or kitchen or leave it outside for the exterior decor!

5) BINS

I cannot stress enough how nice it is to not only have big ole bins, but to keep them pretty uniform. I like when my garage looks clean and organized, and if the storage bins are a mess, it doesn’t matter what else you do, it just looks like a mess! We use bins for kids clothes (a post for another day) that all look the same, and then seasonal decor bins are all the same! It keeps my OCD heart very happy! :D

I sure hope you enjoyed this first mom hack, and it helps with packing up Christmas and getting excited for the new year! I have so many fun posts planned and I cannot wait to share them with you! For now, Happy New Year, and happy packing!
